What makes the Centigrade products high performance coolers

  About Thermoelectric Technology

In 1834, French physicist Jean Peltier discovered that when electrical current is sent through a circuit made of dissimilar conducting materials that heat is absorbed at one junction and given up at the other. This phenomenon is known as the "Peltier Effect." Evolving from Peltier's original discovery, today's thermoelectric modules (TEMs) are highly efficient heat pumps, directly converting electricity into cooling power, without noisy compressor, nor coolants that are harmful for the environment. And best of all, these systems operate at low 12V DC voltage, risk-free of electrical shock.

Centigrade Technology: force-air cooling is better

There are many applications for thermoelectric technology. Centigrade is dedicated to bring to market the most dependable and efficient systems using this technology. Most standard thermoelectric coolers on the market today use convection cooling: the inside of the cooler consist of a metal plate that absorb the heat and transfers it to the outside using the thermoelectric heat pump.

Unlike most thermoelectric coolers, the Centigrade coolers use forced-air cooling technology. The system uses an internal fan to circulate the air inside the cooler. Is it more complicated? Yes. Is it more advanced? Yes. Is it more effective? Yes, by far. By circulating the air inside the cooler, performance is greatly increased, cooling time reduced, even when the cooler is full. That's the Centigrade Technology difference!

 "force-air" cooling diagram

  • The Thermoelectric System (1), transfers heat from the inside of the cooler to the outside air. The Centigrade Advantage: the Thermoelectric System is completely sealed and very well insulated.
  •
  • To expel heat from the system, Outside Fan (2) forces cool outside ambient air (A) across the TE System (1) and exists as hot air (B).

  • The Centigrade Advantage: We've added a second fan (3) to circulated the air inside the cooler. Warmer air (C) is pushed across TE System (1) and re-circulates as cooled air flow (D) inside the cooler.

  • The Centigrade Advantage: we always use high-quality insulation (4) to increase the effectiveness of the system.

Centigrade Technology: More insulation is better

A cooler is not a cooler without proper insulation. Surprisingly, most coolers on the market have very few insulation thickness. To make matters worse, the insulation material is often the cheap but ineffective expanded polystyrene material.

At Centigrade's we always place safety and performance first. That is why we more than doubled the amount of insulation compared to other leading brands, and use a combination of high-insulation factor polyurethane foam (PU) and expanded polyethylene foam (EPE).

 Insulation section view details

  • Heavy-duty mildew resistant soft exterior: the soft exterior won't hurt, won't tear, won't mold. This layer protects the cooler from the environment, while allowing the inner layers to "breath".

  • EPE insulation: expanded polyethylene insulation is flexible, giving the cooler its safe cushiony exterior. It provides an insulated air gap that blocks humidity. This layer is 50% thicker than similar competitive products.

  • PU insulation: polyurethane insulation is one of the best type of insulation, it has a very high insulation factor (r). Other competitive products simply do not have it. And when it comes to insulation for coolers, the more, the better, so we made this layer a whole 25mm (1") thick.

  • Rigid plastic interior: unlike most soft-side products, we line the inside of our coolers with a rigid plastic liner. This layer provides rigidity and is also a waterproof barrier.

 Centigrade Technology: Real Performance

We want to build quality consumer cooling products that work better and last longer than anything else available. Our products combine powerful yet efficient design using the best material quality available.

The numbers speak for themselves. Discover the Centigrade Advantage.

  • The temperature graph at left is performed under laboratory conditions with 75F ambient temperature.

  • The graph measures the internal temperature of leading brands competitive products versus Centigrade coolers.

  • Each cooler is filled to Maximum capacity, cooling time measured is about 4 hours.

  • The Centigrade Advantage is obvious: the Centigrade coolers get much colder, much faster. Their performance rival that of a conventional refrigerator.

  • The Centigrade Technology powerful engine provides rapid cooling, while the Centigrade Technology force-air cooling and superior insulation provide very low temperatures.
  • Centigrade Technology: Extended use ice coolers

We apply the same high quality insulation method to our conventional ice coolers. Our ice coolers are defined as "extended" use coolers. They are particularly designed to hold ice -without refill- for long periods of time. Depending on the product's size, they can keep ice from 3 to 5 days, even under hot ambient conditions (90F).
